AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn's Kayley Marschke was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for women's golf, the SEC office announced Wednesday.
Marschke, a freshman from Suwanee, Ga., posted a perfect 3-0 record in match play at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic over the weekend, helping the Tigers to two wins and a tie en route to a fifth-place team finish.
Marschke earned a 3-and-1 win over Arkansas' Summar Roachell in the quarterfinal match, then defeated Kendall Johnson of Daytona State, 3-and-1, in the consolation match Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, Marschke helped the Tigers to a win over No. 2 Southern Cal with a big comeback to defeat USC's Victoria Morgan. Marschke was 1-down with four holes to play, but she would birdie the final four holes to earn a 2-up victory and clinch the match for Auburn.
It marks the second weekly honor for an Auburn women's golfer this season. Fellow freshman Elena Hualde was named Freshman of the Week leading Auburn to a dual-match win over Tennessee on Feb. 26.
Auburn and the rest of the league are preparing for next week's SEC Championship, which runs Friday-Sunday, April 21-23, at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham.
