AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn's Corey Maggard has been named a finalist for the Jan Strickland Award that goes to the national assistant golf coach of the year, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Thursday.
Maggard was a semifinalist for the award last season.
The Tigers have won four tournaments this year at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Jerry Pate National, Tiger Invitational and the Gary Koch Invitational. Sophomore Trace Crowe won medalist honors at the Gary Koch, finishing the last two rounds with a pair of 66s.
Auburn has been nationally-ranked the entire season and is currently 19th.
Maggard is in his third season at Auburn under Nick Clinard and his first as associate head coach. The Tigers have won 11 tournaments in Maggard's three years.
Auburn had the fourth best NCAA Championship finish in school history by finishing 12th in 2015. The Tigers won three consecutive tournaments with three straight medalists, all different, in the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner and the Schenkel Invitational in 2015.
The award is presented to the NCAA Division I, II, II, NAIA or NJCAA assistant coach that has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.
