AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The No. 9 Auburn softball team is set to wrap up its regular season non-conference slate with a short drive to Alabama State Wednesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Lagoon Park.
The Tigers boast a 27-2 record against non-conference foes this season, including 8-1 away from the friendly confines of Jane B. Moore Field. In those contests, Auburn has hit .310, while holding the opposition to a .188 batting average.
Jenna Abbott (.476), Victoria Draper (.426), Alyssa Rivera (.405) and Carlee Wallace (.405) lead the charge at the plate against teams outside of the SEC. Wallace has belted a team-best 19 extra-base hits, while Kendall Veach has a team-high seven homers against non-league opponents.
Kaylee Carlson has a scalding 0.50 ERA in 18 appearances to go along with a spotless 13-0 record versus non-conference foes this season. As a whole, the pitching staff touts a 0.98 ERA with 136 strikeouts.
Following its final non-conference battle of the regular season, the Tigers welcome Mississippi State to The Plains, April 28-30.
Player to Watch: Victoria Draper
Junior outfielder Victoria Draper has found success against non-conference opponents in her career. Draper has batted .357 with a .434 on-base clip against teams outside of the SEC in her time on The Plains. In those games, the Moulton, Ala. native has 11 stolen bases, too. In 2017, Draper has been involved in nine game-winning plays, including five versus non-SEC programs.
Inside the Series: Alabama State
The Tigers and Lady Hornets have squared off in eight separate occasions with Auburn coming out on top in all eight meetings. In total, Auburn has outscored Alabama State 82-12, good for an average margin of victory of 8.8. The Tigers have averaged 10.3 runs per game, while limiting the Lady Hornets to 1.5 runs per contest.
