AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" After running 9.98 in the 100 meters at the War Eagle Invitational over the weekend, junior Odean Skeen has been named USTFCCCA National Male Athlete of the Week and SEC Co-Runner of the Week, announced Tuesday.
"I am happy to see him recognized at the national level and this is a tremendous honor for him," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "It's good to see an athlete that puts in a lot of hard work get recognized. Skeen has been an integral part of our team this year and we look forward to seeing him compete at the SEC Championships and on the national level."
Skeen's personal best of 9.98 on Saturday makes him the third Tiger sprinter to run sub-ten seconds in school history. His mark also ranks as the top-time in the nation and fourth in the world this season.
With his mark, Skeen moves into a tie for second all-time on Auburn's all-time performance list. He is also the 15th Jamaican sprinter to break the ten-second barrier.
Skeen and the Tigers will look to build on the strong start to the season as the squad splits for Penn Relays and the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Fla. The 123rd annual Penn Relays are set to begin Thursday in Philadelphia, Pa., while the Tom Jones Memorial is set to start Friday.
