COLLEGE STATION, Texas ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Blake Logan hit his second home run of the season, but No. 7 Auburn baseball fell 6-3 to Texas A&M Saturday at Blue Bell Park.
"I thought Texas A&M out-executed us today," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. "I thought we competed hard. I thought we battled hard. Kilkenny, a very good arm there at the end, his fastball really got on us a little bit. Just the miscues. I thought we had a chance to win this ballgame today. I thought we were in it a little more than maybe the final score shows. I told them we had to go back and get our minds ready and it starts now."
Logan staked the Tigers to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with his second home run of the season, a towering three-run homer to left that scored Jonah Todd and Daniel Robert.
He finished 2-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBI. Robert, Conor Davis and Luke Jarvis each added two hits for Auburn (24-9, 8-3 SEC).
The Aggies cut into the Auburn lead in the second with a 2-run double by Jorge Gutierrez, and then a 2-run home run by Hunter Coleman in the third put Texas A&M on top 4-3.
Coleman was 3-for-4 with the homer and two RBI.
Texas A&M (21-11, 4-7 SEC) scored a run in the fifth on three consecutive two-out singles. The Aggies added a run in the sixth on a bases-loaded wild pitch for a 6-3 lead.
Keegan Thompson (4-1) allowed four runs (three earned) in four innings in his first start since March 24. The junior struck out six with one walk. Calvin Coker pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief. He has allowed just one earned run in his last eight appearances (16.2 innings).
Texas A&M starter Corbin Martin was charged with three runs in three innings. He walked five and struck out a pair. Kaylor Chafin (3-1) got the win out of the bullpen with 3.2 scoreless innings.
Mitchell Kilkenny got the last seven outs for his third save.
Auburn and the Aggies play the rubber game Sunday at 1 pm.
