Senior J.J. Shaffer has been named to the 2017 SEC Baseball Community Service Team it was announced on Wednesday morning.

Shaffer, a reserve outfielder and a native of Auburn, has been active in his hometown community since first joining the program four years ago. Throughout his time as a student-athlete at Auburn, he has worked with the Jason Dufner Foundation packing backpacks with food for elementary students in the local area, opened car doors for elementary students at numerous schools in the community and read to elementary students.

Shaffer has also visited with patients and families at Children's Hospital of Birmingham, participated in the Auburn Downtown Trick or Treat and spoke to students visiting Auburn's campus.

Shaffer has played in 118 games at Auburn, starting 28.

Auburn closes out the regular season this week at home against Ole Miss with a Thursday-Friday-Saturday series.

The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service events.
