Auburn's Hualde, Murphy earn SEC women's golf honors

AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn freshman Elena Hualde and junior Kelli Murphy were honored by the Southeastern Conference as the league announced its annual women's golf awards Thursday.

Hualde was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, and Murphy earned a nod on the SEC Community Service Team.

Hualde, a freshman from Pamplona, Spain, has been Auburn's top player this season with a 72.90 scoring average in 11 events. Of her 29 rounds this season, 16 have been at even par or better, and she has two tournament victories in her rookie season ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" co-medalist at the season-opening Fall Kickoff in September, and medalist in the Auburn-Tennessee Challenge in February.

Murphy earned her second straight bid to the SEC Community Service Team. This year, she increased her level of service, leading the women's golf team to second place among Auburn teams in the fall canned food drive and organized the team in purchasing Christmas gifts for needy families. She also organized a golf clinic for the Auburn Student Veterans in March.

Postseason play gets underway for the Tigers next week at the NCAA Athens Regional in Athens, Ga. The 54-hole tournament runs Monday-Wednesday at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
