May 8, 2017 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior pitcher Kaylee Carlson has been named the SEC Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office Monday. She is the fifth player from Auburn to receive recognition by the SEC this season, joining Kasey Cooper, Haley Fagan, Alyssa Rivera and Carlee Wallace.
Carlson is the first Tiger to be named the conference's top pitcher of the week since Jenee Loree in 2012.
The Garden Grove, Calif. native earned her SEC-best 25th win in a complete game shutout of No. 14 Alabama in nine innings Friday night. She then earned the save in the Saturday evening clash that elevated Auburn to its first series win in Tuscaloosa in program history.
Carlson captained the pitching staff to surrender only four runs on the weekend - the lowest mark the Tigers have ever allowed in a three-game series versus the Crimson Tide.
She went 10 scoreless innings on the weekend and scattered just six hits while striking out three.
The junior held the opposition to hit just .143 with on base and did not allow the leadoff hitter to reach base in eight of nine chances in the series.
Carlson has not surrendered a run in her last 11.1 innings and has allowed one earned run or fewer in 29 appearances this season, including 10 in SEC play.
Carlson and the Tigers head to the SEC Tournament as the No. 2 seed and are set to take on the winner of the No. 7 seed Kentucky and the No. 10 seed South Carolina Thursday in Knoxville, Tenn. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network with Brit Bowen and Brad Law in the radio booth on 95.9 FM locally and the official Auburn app.
