Tigers Picked Fifth in SEC Preseason Poll

AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The Auburn volleyball team was selected to finish the Southeastern Conference schedule in fifth according to the 2017 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The selection marks the highest selection for the program under head coach Rick Nold.

"This group has very high expectations of themselves and we look forward to the elite level of competition the SEC provides," Nold said. "We expect to be a team competing in the postseason and a successful SEC season will be crucial to reach that goal."

The Tigers return four starters plus libero from the 2016 team that finished the season tied for fifth in the SEC at 9-9. Auburn, who went 15-16 overall, boasts a roster with five seniors, including All-SEC performers Jesse Earl and Alexa Filley.

Auburn picked up 96 points from the league's 13 coaches. Florida was the favorite to win the conference championship with Kentucky following in second. Missouri and Texas A&M were selected third and fourth, respectively. Tennessee, South Carolina, Arkansas, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State round out the poll.

The Tigers open the regular season in Atlanta, facing a tough schedule at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Auburn opens with host and 2016 NCAA Tournament participant Georgia Tech and follow with another postseason team in Michigan State. The Tigers cap the weekend taking on Furman.
