June 7, 2017 AUBURN, Ala. - Kasey Cooper has rounded out her astonishing career by earning two more awards to her tally. Cooper was tabbed a Senior CLASS Award First Team All-American and was the recipient of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award.
The Dothan, Ala. native was one of just five to be recognized as first team honoree and was the lone representative from the SEC. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be classified as NCAA Division I seniors and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Cooper capped her career with 270 RBI, which is the most in SEC history, and Auburn records with 257 games played, 67 home runs and a .748 slugging percentage. She also finished her time in a Tiger uniform in the top five in the program record books in hits (280), runs (232), doubles (52) and on-base percentage (.530).
The standout infielder was stellar in the classroom, maintaining a 3.98 GPA as a mechanical engineering major during her stint at Auburn. She is the first player in program history to be a three-time Academic All-American and was the 2016 and 2017 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Given to the top student-athlete in the state of Alabama, Cooper was awarded a $3,000 post-graduate scholarship from the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame for earning the Scholar-Athlete Award.
The criteria for the laurel was to be a senior in final year of eligibility, hold at GPA of at least 3.2, exhibit outstanding athletic ability, demonstrate strong leadership and community service and plan on continuing studies following graduation.
Cooper is in the process of attending medical school upon completion of her undergraduate program.
She has been involved with more than 15 community service projects since she stepped foot on campus in the fall of 2013. She is personally involved with a non-profit charity that collects and sends service men and women non-perishable hygiene products. Cooper is also involved with sending handwritten cards, toiletries and goodies to the troops overseas.
She served a prominent role in the Auburn Leadership Institute/CONNECT program, mentoring and building relationships with the incoming freshmen and transfer students.
Cooper has assisted with moving in new students in multiple facets and served at the local Christian Women's Job Corps for the last two years. She has also played a key role in Auburn's partnership with the East Alabama Food Bank that provides donation bins at every home game at Jane B. Moore Field.
