AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn women's soccer team closed out the 2017 preseason with a 2-0 win against Samford Saturday night. Kristen Dodson scored both goals for the Tigers in the exhibition victory at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
"We're finding a way to get a result, which is a good thing," said head coach Karen Hoppa. "I'm not pleased overall with our performance. I think possession broke down way too much and we've got a lot of things to work on.
"The good thing is we can have the confidence in finding a result and then we've got to get better from here."
Much like the previous fixture at Georgia, more than 20 players saw the field for the Tigers.
Auburn took care of its offensive output in the opening 45 minutes of play, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the seventh minute, Dodson found a loose ball in the Samford box and dribbled past a defender before tucking a shot into the far post corner for the match's first goal.
Twenty minutes later, the junior latched on to a corner from Bri Folds and finished off a brace on her right foot.
"It felt good," said Dodson of getting on the scoresheet. "I'm just happy to contribute as much as I can to help get us a win."
The Tigers held on in the second half to preserve the shutout and continue its momentum heading into the regular season.
Auburn officially kicks off the 2017 campaign Friday, Aug. 17, when it plays host to South Alabama. The ball is set to get rolling at 6:30 p.m. CT at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
