AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Former Auburn women's basketball standout Brandy Montgomery will begin her professional career overseas after signing with BC Univ Goldis ICIM Arad in Romania, the club announced this week.
"I am very excited," Montgomery said. "It's a great feeling knowing all your hard work has paid off.
"This process requires patience. You have to trust that you will find a good job. The only thing you can do keep working out every day and have faith that someone will give you an opportunity to continue to do what you love."
Montgomery, who came to the Plains from Port St. Lucie, Fla., finished her Auburn career ranked seventh in program history with 1,644 points. She also finished with 205 career 3-point field goals, third-most all-time at Auburn. As a senior, she averaged 13.3 points per game and was the Tigers' second-leading scorer. She also led the team with an 83.6-percent free-throw mark in 2016-17, and her career free-throw percentage of 74.6 ranks 10th in Auburn history.
She was a preseason All-SEC selection as a senior, an SEC All-Freshman honoree in 2014, and was a two-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll as a junior and a senior.
Based in Arad, Romania, ICIM Arad is one of the top clubs in the Liga Nationala with nine league championships and two league cups in its history. Arad is on the western edge of Romania, near the border with Hungary.
Montgomery will depart for Romania next week, and the season begins in October. She joins fellow 2017 graduate Katie Frerking in the European professional ranks; Frerking signed with Swedish club Lulea Basket in July.
