DURHAM, N.C. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The Auburn soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 9 North Carolina Friday night. The Tigers (2-2-1) were held to two shots in the opening match of the Duke Nike Classic.

"I felt that we started the game well and we were ready," said head coach Karen Hoppa. "Give credit to UNC for a great goal in the first half, and we really struggled to recover from that.

"We've got to respond to goals better. I thought we could have done a lot more offensively. We committed a couple of fouls that we shouldn't have that cost us two goals. We've got to be better in those moments and I think there's a lot more we can do."

Bri Folds and Alyssa Malonson registered one shot each to pace the Auburn offense.

Sarah Le Beau went the distance between the posts and made a career-high nine saves in the 90-minute tilt.

Seventeen players saw action on the pitch, led by Caroline Bado, Kristen Dodson, Sarah Houchin, Courtney Schell and Taylor Troutman who played the entirety of the non-conference bout.

Following a 2 1/2 hour weather delay with heavy rain and lightning in the surrounding area, the Tar Heels (3-1-0) secured a goal in the 29th minute and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

North Carolina netted four goals in the second half and went on to take the result, 5-0.

The Tigers complete the weekend Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. CT when they face No. 13 Duke in the finale of the Duke Nike Classic.
