AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men's tennis team begins the fall tournament season this weekend as four Tigers compete in the Duke James Bonk Invitational held at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Senior Viboosh Chandrasekar, junior Brandon Laubser and freshmen Diego Chavarria and Alex Mascioli will represent Auburn in this kickoff event Friday through Sunday.
"We have two new freshmen going for the first time in Diego and Alex, and there is always a lot of emotion playing your first college match," Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds said. "We've looked good during the short time we've practiced this fall, and this should be a good experience against some quality competition.
"It also gives (assistant coach) Mark Finnegan a great opportunity to see the guys in action and be on the court with them in his first Auburn event."
In singles action, Chandrasekar will face Kavir Kumar of North Carolina and Mascioli plays Ciro Lampasas of Louisville in opening-round B flight play Friday afternoon. In flight A1, Chavarria will take on Nilo Duarte of North Florida, while Laubser faces Leonardo Menezes of UNC Charlotte in flight A2.
In doubles action Friday morning, Laubser and Chavarria will face Duke's Ryan Dickerson and Spencer Furman in the A2 flight, while Chandrasekar and Mascioli are paired against Philip Mobius and Louis Ishizaka of VCU.
Competition continues through the championship round Sunday. Teams competing include Auburn, Duke, Elon, George Washington, Louisville, North Carolina, UNC Charlotte, North Carolina State, North Florida, Princeton, VCU and Wake Forest.
