DURHAM, N.C. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The Auburn soccer team fell at the hands of No. 13 Duke Sunday afternoon, 2-0. The Tigers (2-3-1) totaled five shots, including two on target, in the finale of the Duke Nike Classic.
"Obviously, we played a really good Duke team; I thought they played great today," said head coach Karen Hoppa. "I was really pleased overall with our performance as far as improving from Friday.
"There's certainly some things we've got to fix, but I thought we played a solid game. Our possession was better and we created some chances. We just have to do better in the final third."
Auburn was led offensively by Bri Folds and Alyssa Malonson, who each tallied two shots. Sarah Houchin also contributed a shot to round out the offense in the 90-minute match.
Sarah Le Beau produced another solid outing in the keeper kit with eight saves, including three at point-blank range in 1-on-1 scenarios. The junior touted 17 saves on the weekend, the most she's ever produced in a weekend in her career.
Seventeen players saw time on the field Sunday afternoon, paced by five who went the distance.
The Blue Devils (5-1-0) broke open a scoreless tie in the 24th minute and took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
The home team doubled its lead in the 56th minute and went on to take the result, 2-0.
The Tigers return to the pitch Friday when they host High Point. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
