ATHENS, Ga. - Auburn junior distance runner Brenda Kigen finished third in the women's 6k at Bulldog SEC Preview, running a 21:29.1 Saturday at the UGA Golf Course.
"I was pleased with how the men and women raced today," assistant cross country and track and field head coach David Barnett said. "On the men's side, we changed up the lineup by racing three freshmen and three upperclassmen. The freshman got invaluable experience in their college debut, and the underclassmen took care of business and were very competitive. For the women, Brenda Kigen ran a very impressive opener and she is going to get better each week. The teams worked out very hard and we are looking forward to the rest of the season."
Kigen and Andonet Cheruiyot were the lone women in the field of 52. Cheruiyot finished 24th with a time of 23:03.1.
Senior Kevin Wyss led the men in the 8k with a 25:41.2 to finish seventh. Sophomore Erik Armes (25.57.0) was 17th followed by senior Wesley Pectol in 23rd (26:08.6), freshman Solomon Komen (26.28.1) in 29th, freshman Tommy McDonough (26:58.0) in 36th and freshman Jack Rogers (28:30.2) rounded out the contingent with a 44th-place finish.
The men finished fifth overall with 112 points. Texas A&M won the event.
