AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men's tennis team had a full weekend of competition at the Commodore Scramble hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville.

The Tigers got wins in singles from Olle Thestrup (2), Brandon Laubser (2), Carles Sarrio (2), Michael Durham and Edward Nguyen. Freshman Alex Rushin recorded his first victory at Auburn with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Skrabut (Furman).

The doubles teams of Sarrio and Durham, Laubser and Nguyen, and Rushin and Thestrup all advanced to the doubles quarterfinals round.

Other teams competing in the Commodore Scramble included Alabama, Furman, Lipscomb, Louisville, LSU and host Vanderbilt.

"Our guys got better as the weekend went on," Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds said. "With this being the first matches of the fall for most of the guys, we had to shake off some rust. Now we need to take what we saw in match play this weekend and get back home and work on those specific areas. We have three weeks until regionals, so these next few weeks are very important for us to work on the court and on conditioning."

The Tigers return to action in the ITA Southern Regionals at LSU in mid-October.
