AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn softball team opened its annual fall slate with a pair of successful exhibitions Friday night. The Tigers earned back-to-back shutouts in front of a large crowd at Jane B. Moore Field.
"I thought we got off to good starts in both games," head coach Mickey Dean said. "I thought our defense did a really nice job and our pitchers did a good job of getting ahead of hitters, which led to a high count of strikeouts.
"We're going to work on making adjustments with our in-game at-bats."
Kaylee Carlson and Makayla Martin earned starts in the two contests against Northwest Florida State CC and Enterprise State CC. Guided by the two aces, the pitching staff, as a whole, averaged over one strikeout per inning.
The two shutouts were also aided by great team defensive play with the entire team seeing action in the field.
The Tigers had a majority of their success from the top of the order that featured Taylon Snow, Victoria Draper, Alyssa Rivera and Kendall Veach. Rivera launched Auburn's lone home run to bring the crowd to their feet Friday night.
"We really enjoyed the crowd," Dean stated. "It was a great crowd and I enjoyed meeting everyone afterwards. I look forward to seeing everyone again at our next home contest."
The Tigers return to action next Friday when they play host to Chipola CC and Wallace State CC-Hanceville at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. CT, respectively. Admission is free for all home games at Jane B. Moore Field.
