AUBURN, Ala. -- The Associated Press announced its first-ever Midseason All-America Team on Tuesday, and Auburn offensive guard Braden Smith and cornerback Carlton Davis were both named to the second team.
Smith is a senior who has started in all seven games this season and has made 34 consecutive starts for Auburn dating back to the 2004 season. At the conclusion of last year, he was named first-team All-SEC by the AP and a handful of other media outlets. He was also named second-team All-SEC by the league's coaches.
This season, Smith has been highlighted multiple times by Pro Football Focus, including his Week 5 performance where he didn't allow a quarterback sack, hurry or pressure against Mississippi State.
Davis has also been outstanding this season, playing a major role on an Auburn defense ranked top 10 nationally. The junior is tied for third in the SEC with 1.3 passes defended per game. He has 17 tackles, one interception, and he recovered his first career fumble this past Saturday at LSU.
Like Smith, Davis has also been recognized multiple times by Pro Football Focus. Against Mississippi State, he earned a rating of 96.1 -- best among all players nationally that week, regardless of position.
