Hugo Gonzalez was named the SEC Freshman of the Week following his dominating opening weekend performance for the Auburn swimming and diving team.
Gonzalez, from Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Spain, won all four of his individual events, sweeping the backstroke and IM events in a double dual meet with No. 18 Tennessee and No. 25 Wisconsin.
Gonzalez’ winning times in both the 200 IM (1:47.15) and 400 IM (3:47.78) are currently the fastest in the nation while his winning 200 back time (1:45.53) is fourth-fastest.
Gonzalez also led off the winning 400 medley relay with a 100 back split of 47.45, which is currently the second-fastest in the country. That came after his winning time of 48.58 during the 100 back race.
Auburn returns to dual meet action this weekend as it plays host to Texas A&M at the Martin Aquatics Center. Auburn goes into the meet ranked No. 10 on the men’s side and No. 15 in the women’s poll while A&M is 15th on the men’s side and 5th in the women’s poll.
Saturday’s meet begins at 1 p.m., with diving kicking off at noon. The meet can be watched live on SECN+.
