AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn women's tennis is set to host the ITA Southern Regional Friday through Monday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. A total of 16 teams will compete in the four-day event including SEC opponents Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
"We are excited to host this outstanding event," head coach Lauren Spencer said. "It is a very talented field and our girls look forward to playing against some very good competition."
Auburn has had a regional champion in four-straight seasons with senior Alizee Michaud defeating teammate Andie Dikosavljevic in an all-Auburn final to claim the singles championship last season in Tuscaloosa. In 2013, Pleun Burgmans won the singles title and then won back-to-back doubles titles with partner Emily Flickinger in 2013-14. Dikosavljevic won the singles championship in 2015 in Auburn.
This season, five Tigers will play the courts led by sophomore preseason No. 60 Taylor Russo and freshman Jaeda Daniel. Daniel, a product of Port Charlotte, Fla., has six wins early into the season, including four-straight wins in the pre-qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships to advance to the Qualifiers.
Senior Mary Katherine Lewis, junior Caroline Turner and freshman Madeline Meredith round out the Tigers' contingent.
In doubles, Russo and Meredith will pair up for the first time this season as will Daniel and Turner.
Play begins Friday morning at 8:00 am CT with the first round of doubles followed by the first and second rounds of singles.
