AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn plays its third women's golf tournament of the fall season this weekend as the Tigers travel to San Antonio, Texas, for the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational.
The tournament runs Sunday-Tuesday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club (par 72, 6,450 yards) just outside San Antonio. This is Auburn's third appearance in the last four seasons at this event, formerly known as the Alamo Invitational.
Auburn's two seniors, Michaela Owen and Kelli Murphy, along with sophomore Elena Hualde, headline the Tigers' lineup this week. The Tigers' two freshmen will also compete - Kaleigh Telfer will play in the No. 4 spot, and Hoover native Mychael O'Berry is slotted for the No. 5 position.
Hualde has been Auburn's top player through two events, averaging 71.17 strokes through six competitive rounds. She has posted three rounds in the 60s and finished seventh and 11th in Auburn's first two tournaments. Owen is close behind at 71.33 through six rounds; her first four rounds of the season were all under par. Like Hualde, Owen has two top-20s; a tie for 14th at the Mason Rudolph and a tie for eighth at the Magnolia Invitational.
O'Berry, making her collegiate debut, was the 2015 Birmingham Metro Golfer of the Year and helped Hoover High School to two AHSAA state titles.
Auburn faces a strong field that includes a pair of SEC foes in Arkansas and Texas A&M. Half the tournament consists of schools from the Lone Star State - Houston, North Texas, TCU, Texas State, Texas Tech and UTSA - with Denver, Kansas State Maryland, Middle Tennessee and Oklahoma rounding out the field.
Last year, Auburn finished in a tie for seventh place at this event. Owen led the way with a T-16 finish at 1-over-par. Auburn was runner-up at this event in 2014, posting the second-lowest 54-hole total in program history at 850 (-14).
