SAN ANTONIO, Texas ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Senior Kelli Murphy earned her first top-10 finish of the season to lead the Auburn women's golf team at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday.
Murphy shot a final-round 72 (E) to finish at 212 (-4) for the tournament and in a tie for sixth place. It was her best finish of the 2017-18 season and the third top-10 of her career. Murphy carded three birdies and three bogeys in her final round.
Sophomore Elena Hualde rebounded from two tough days to post a team-best 71 (-1) Tuesday and climb 12 spots up the leaderboard. She recorded three birdies against two bogeys on thed ay and played her final 16 holes of the day at 2-under.
Freshman Elena Hualde tied for 37th place at 223 (+7), senior Michaela Owen tied for 46th at 226 (+10), and freshman Mychael O'Berry shot 229 (+13) to tie for 54th.
As a team, Auburn finished in ninth place with scores of 301-286-296=883 (+19). Arkansas claimed the team title with a 54-hole total of 842 (-22), 18 shots ahead of TCU and Texas A&M, who tied for second at 860 (-4). Kansas State's Connie Jaffrey was the individual medalist at 207 (-9).
Auburn wraps up the fall portion of the 2017-18 schedule Nov. 3-5 as they travel south of the border for the Battle at the Beach, set to take place at Club Campestre in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
