Padgett, Rebula lead No. 6 Tigers to fifth place finish at Tavistock Invitational

WINDERMERE, Fla. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn men's golf freshman Wells Padgett carded a bogey-free 4-under 68 final round Tuesday at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational to climb 15 spots in the standings and finish tied for ninth at 3-under 73-72-68-213. The No. 6 Tigers finished fifth in the event following a 3-under 285 final round performance at the par-72, 7,544-yard Isleworth Country Club.

Padgett, a native of Wichita, Kan., was the Tigers' top finisher for the first time in his career. His final round 68 included four birdies on Nos. 2, 6, 13 and 17.

Not to be outdone by his teammate, sophomore Jovan Rebula also shot a bogey-free round (1-under 71) on Tuesday to finish one stroke behind at 2-under 73-70-71-214 in a tie for 11th.

Auburn (293-286-285-864) finished at even par, just six shots behind champion-No. 21 California (858).

"I'm proud of the guys this week and we improved each day," head coach Nick Clinard said. "Learning the golf course each round helped as the hole locations were challenging each day. We head into the off season as one of the best teams in the nation and lots of areas to improve both mentally and physically. We have a high skill level and I am already excited for the spring."

Freshman Brandon Mancheno finished off his debut fall season with a t-21st at 1-over 73-71-73-217. The Jacksonville, Fla. product finished in the top-25 in three of four events played.

Juniors Jacob Solomon (74-73-73-220) and Trace Crowe (74-77-74-225) finished t-31st and t-58th, respectively.

Illinois' Dylan Meyer won medalists honors at 11-under 67-66-72-205.

Elsewhere in the country, the Auburn B team headed by junior Grayson Huff finished third at the Samford Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala. behind UT-Martin and Tennessee Tech.

Huff, a native of Eagle, Idaho, tied for second at 1-under 73-72-70. Fellow junior Ryan Knop t-10th at 74-73-74-221, Freshman Andrew Kozan and sophomore Regan Harrell tied for 23rd at 12-over 228 and freshman Marcus Svennson t-35th at 80-79-78-237.

Auburn has concluded the fall portion of the 2017-18 schedule and will get a long break before the spring season gets started at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii, Feb. 1-3, 2018.
