WEST POINT, Miss. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn sophomore Elena Hualde shot a 3-under-par 69 to pace the Tigers' women's golf team in Tuesday's final round of the Magnolia Invitational.
It was the best individual round of the week for the 17th-ranked Tigers, who tied for fourth-place at 877 (+13) after shooting 292 (+4) on Tuesday at Old Waverly Golf Club.
"Overall, very disappointed with a tie for fourth-place finish," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "Just had to count too many high numbers over the three days. Clean that up and we will have better finishes. Some bright spots were Michaela's top-10 finish and Elena's final-round 69."
Hualde's round was her third in the 60s so far this season and boosted her to an 11th-place finish. She was at or below par her entire third round, opening with a birdie, then playing the back nine at even with one birdie and one bogey. She would finish with three birdies in her final seven holes to record Auburn's low round of the tournament.
Senior Michaela Owen was the Tigers' top individual finisher, posting a 73 (+1) Tuesday to finish at 1-over for the week and tied for eighth place. She had three birdies on the day to earn her fourth career top-10 finish.
Senior Kelli Murphy posted a 74 (+2) and freshman Kaleigh Telfer carded a 76 (+4) for Auburn's other two counting scores on the day. Telfer tied for 27th in her first collegiate tournament, and Murphy and sophomore Kayley Marschke tied for 34th.
Tournament co-host Ole Miss earned the victory at 854 (-10), seven shots ahead of second-place Memphis. The Rebels' Julia Johnson and Memphis' Abby Herrmann were co-medalists at 209 (-7); Johnson won a two-hole playoff to take the title.
Auburn continues its fall golf season Oct. 22-24 at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
