McIlroy Awarded SEC Player of the Week

AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Junior Brenna McIlroy of the Auburn volleyball team won Southeastern Conference Player and Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday.

McIlroy led the Tigers on the road Sunday, guiding the team to a 3-1 win at South Carolina and snapping a five-match skid. The outside hitter totaled a season-best 17 kills, which finished tied for the most by any student-athlete in the match.

In addition, McIlroy had a solid performance defensively as she added 17 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. She went 13-for-13 in serve receive, while chipping in a block and one service ace.

Both recognitions are the first in McIlroy's career. The Garland, Texas, product was named SEC Freshman of the Week three times in 2015.

Auburn (12-8, 5-6) returns to The Plains for a Wednesday night tilt, hosting rival Alabama. The Tigers and the Crimson Tide square off at 7 p.m. CT and the match will be broadcast live on SEC Network. The contest is also the team's All Auburn, All Orange match and fans are encouraged to wear orange.
