AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" On Thursday, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn was chosen as one of 16 semifinalists for the George Munger College Coach of the Year, which is presented annually be the Maxwell Football Club.
Malzahn in his fifth year at Auburn, and his team is currently 8-2, ranked No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings, and coming off a signature win over No. 1 Georgia. In SEC play this season, the Tigers have outscored their opponents, 301-138, they are ranked top-three in the conference in both scoring offense and scoring defense.
Semifinalist voting for the Coach of the Year award will begin on Friday, Nov. 17 and close on Dec. 11. The finalists round will include the top three coaches with a winner to be announced on Dec. 27. Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA head football coaches, sports information directors and selected national media.
Malzahn was a finalist for the same award in 2013. Earlier this week, he was named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week.
