AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn men's golf freshman Brandon Mancheno has been named the 2017 Florida State Golf Association Junior Player of the Year. It is the second time in three years the Jacksonville, Fla. native has won the prestigious award, previously winning in 2015.
Mancheno had an outstanding season, earning medalist honors at the US Junior and finishing runner-up at the FSGA Amateur Championship. He also advanced to match play at the US Amateur Championships and was part of the gold medal-winning USA Team at the Toyota Junior World Cup in Japan.
Mancheno has impressed on the collegiate level as well this season. He ranks second on the team in stroke average at 70.92 strokes per round, and had four rounds in the 60s through four fall events. He also led the Tigers at back-to-back events with a pair of top-10 finishes at the Trinity Forest Invitational (t-3rd) and the Jerry Pate National (t-9th).
Mancheno and the Tigers return to action Feb. 1-3, 2018 at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
