AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn's Unique Thompson was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for women's basketball, the league office announced Tuesday.

Thompson, a 6-3 forward from Theodore, Ala., has been a breakout star for the Tigers through the first three games of the 2017-18 season. She is averaging 12.0 points and 12.3 rebounds in the early-going.

In Sunday's 75-59 win over Louisiana Tech, Thompson recorded her first collegiate double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. She had secured a double-double by halftime with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the first half, the first Auburn player to do so since DeWanna Bonner in 2009. Thompson also had six blocks in the win, the most by an Auburn player since 2011.

Thompson had 11 points and seven rebounds in Thursday's win over North Carolina A&T, and in last Monday's season-opener at Virginia Tech, she pulled down 16 rebounds in her collegiate debut.

Auburn hits the road this weekend for the Challenge in Music City, which runs Friday-Sunday in Nashville, Tenn. The Tigers face Georgetown (7:30 p.m. Friday), Northwestern (5 p.m. Saturday) and UT-Chattanooga (4:30 p.m. Sunday) in the event at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.
