AUBURN, Ala. - Tad Maclean of Cornwall, England, will join the Auburn men's tennis program in January, head coach Bobby Reynolds announced today.
"We're very fortunate to have Tad joining us this spring," Coach Reynolds said. "From the time he stepped on campus, his personality and charm made the coaches and his teammates want to be around him. He is the second-youngest British player with an ATP point. We believe Tad has yet to tap his full potential and we're excited that Auburn is the next chapter in his bright tennis future."
A Top 50 player in Great Britain, Maclean is the second-youngest British player to earn a professional ATP point. The winner of the back draw of the English national championships and a national semifinalist in doubles, he won ITF junior tournaments at Dundalk and Liverpool and has an ITF ranking of 406. He won the Cornwall county title in singles and was runner-up in doubles. He is rated 1.2 by the LTA and has a 13.1 UTR.
"We couldn't be happier to have Tad joining the team. He epitomizes the traits of what Auburn tennis wants to be," said assistant coach Mark Finnegan. "Throughout his recruiting process, we saw high integrity and an open-minded tennis player who is just beginning to realize how good he can be."
"I chose Auburn because I saw the team's hungry work ethic and the devotion of the coaches to making each player better," Maclean said. "I'm looking forward to becoming one of the Tigers and finding new levels on the court."
Lorenzo Joaquin Rodriguez of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Matteo De Vincentis of Rome, Italy, will also be joining the Tigers in January. Auburn opens the spring dual match season Sunday, January 14, hosting Jackson State in a pair of matches at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
