Men's S&D headed to Georgia Invitational

While all Auburn eyes will be focused on Atlanta this weekend, the Auburn men's swimming and diving program will be just 70 miles to the east in Athens, Ga., as it tests itself against a loaded field at the Georgia Invitational, Dec. 1-3, at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.

"This is going to be a big one," Auburn coach Brett Hawke said. "We got some fine tuning in this week and then we will put some racing suits on and see where we're at."

Joining the No. 10-ranked Auburn squad will be No. 2 California, No. 4 Michigan, No. 12 Georgia, No. 23 Virginia, Harvard and UCLA.

Auburn has recorded 12 NCAA B cuts from five different swimmers and three diver have recorded at least two zone qualifying scores.

Leading the way for the men has been freshman Hugo Gonzalez, who has five cuts of his own, earning them in the 100 back, 200 back, 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM. He has been named SEC Freshman of the Week twice and the CollegeSwimming.com SEC Swimmer of the Week once.

Zach Apple (100 free, 200 free), Peter Holoda (50 free, 100 free) and Luis Martinez (100 fly, 200 fly) also have multiple cuts while Santiago Grassi has one (100 fly).

Auburn's female divers will also compete in Athens.

Prelims start each morning at 8:30 am CT and live stats are available through AuburnTigers.com.

Diving will take place at 10 am each morning with live scoring available at DiveMeets.com.

The finals session begins at 4 pm on Friday and Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday. Each finals session will be streamed on SEC Network +.

This is the final swimming competition for the team this calendar year while the divers will host the Auburn Diving Invitational, Dec. 17-18.
