SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The Auburn women's golf team wrapped up their fall season Sunday, tying for fifth place at the inaugural Battle at the Beach.
The Tigers shot a final-round 290 (+6) to finish at 870 (+18) for the week, tied with Houston. Top-ranked UCLA took the team title at 839 (-13) after a 12-under round Sunday to overtake second-round leader Oklahoma.
Auburn freshman Mychael O'Berry, playing as an individual, posted the top round by a Tiger Sunday with a 1-under-par 70. O'Berry recorded five birdies on the day to finish with her first under-par round in college. It was an 11-shot turnaround from her second-round 81, and she climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard to finish in 64th place.
Senior Michaela Owen was the Tigers' top finisher for the week, tying for 18th place with rounds of 73-70-73=216 (+3). She was one of three Tigers to shoot final-round 73s, along with senior Kelli Murphy and freshman Kaleigh Telfer. Murphy finished in a tie for 22nd, and Telfer tied for 38th.
Sophomore Elena Hualde recorded Auburn's best round among those in the starting lineup with an even-par 71 to wrap up her week. She finished with two of her three rounds at par or better, carding scores of 70-77-71=218 (+5) to tie for 26th place.
With Sunday's result, the Tigers' fall season is complete. Auburn will now turn its attention to offseason practice before the spring season gets underway in February with the UCF Challenge Feb. 4-6 in Orlando.
