AUBURN, Ala.- Forward Chuma Okeke has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday. He is the first Tiger to garner recognition from the conference this season.

Okeke finished the week averaging 11 points and eight rebounds per game in Auburn's two victories at Dayton and against George Mason.

The Atlanta, Ga. native set a career-high with 15 points in a 73-60 win at the home of the NCAA First Four in Dayton. He also ranked second on the team in rebounds throughout the week after producing back-to-back games with eight boards.

Okeke was responsible for 22 of the team's 53 bench points (42 percent) and 16 of the bench's 33 rebounds (48 percent) during the two-game week.

The Tigers are off to a 6-1 for the second-straight season. It is the first time Auburn has accomplished the feat since the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons.

Okeke and the Tigers continue their three-game homestand with a contest against Gardner-Webb Wednesday evening. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT at Auburn Arena.
