BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Auburn women’s soccer team, which kicks off its season Friday night, was selected to finish sixth overall in the annual SEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the league office announced Tuesday.

Florida took the top spot and was predicted to win the 2017 SEC title after all 14 of the league’s head coaches voted.

The Tigers are one of four teams ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Rankings, holding at No. 10 in the nation. South Carolina is fourth, Florida is seventh and Arkansas is 17th.

Auburn finished 2016 second in the conference after being picked third in the preseason poll last season. The Tigers are scheduled to face seven of the other nine teams that make up the preseason top 10 as voted by the head coaches, including three at home.

The 25th season of women’s soccer in the SEC begins August 18 with Auburn hosting South Alabama. Kickoff at the Auburn Soccer Complex is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be streamed on the SEC Network+ and WEGL 91.1.
