AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Following a 196.625 to kick off the home schedule Friday, the Auburn gymnastics team moved up to No. 16 on the RoadtoNationals.com weekly rankings list with an average of 195.288.
"I feel like we are definitely heading in the right direction," head coach Jeff Graba said. "This team is really good when they are having fun and they had fun for sure Friday. Now we have to figure out how to make that performance portable so we can take it on the road against a determined Georgia team."
The squad's 196.625 was the highest home-opening score in program history.
LSU remains in the top spot, while Utah holds at No. 2. Michigan and UCLA are third and fourth, while Kentucky and Florida are tied for fifth. Alabama and Arkansas are in the Top 10 as well with Missouri coming at No. 24. Georgia is 28th and hosts preseason No. 1 Oklahoma Monday, Nov. 15, in Athens.
The Tigers are tied for 13th on both vault and beam and are 18th on bars.
Junior Samantha Cerio ranks tied for eighth on bars with a 9.9 average, while freshman Drew Watson is tied for 30th on vault at 9.85.
Auburn (2-2, 1-0) faces a tough test on the road, traveling to rival Georgia for a Friday night tilt. The Tigers and the Bulldogs will go head-to-head at 6 p.m. CT in Stegeman Coliseum.
