BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mustapha Heron has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
It is the second time the sophomore has earned player of the week honors this season. He shares the honor with Arkansas' Daryl Macon.
Heron is the first Auburn player to earn two player of the week accolades from the conference since Korvotney Barber during the 2006-07 season. He is the fourth Tiger in program history to earn two weekly honors in the same season.
The Waterbury, Conn. native averaged a double-double for the week with 17.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in league wins at Missouri and against LSU.
Heron's performances led the Tigers to their 18th and 19th wins of the season, surpassing last year's total of 18 victories. Auburn also matched last campaign's conference win total of seven with 10 SEC clashes left on the schedule.
In the triumph at Missouri, Heron poured in 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds en route to his fifth career double-double.
Heron capped the week with 21 points on 8 of 10 shooting, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. He also contributed a team-best nine boards to go along with two assists and two steals.
The guard has now scored in double figures in 48 of 52 career games, including 17 of 20 this season. He has shot 55 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc in the last three SEC games.
Heron and his teammates travel to Ole Miss Tuesday for an 8 p.m. CT tip. The game can be heard on the Auburn Sports Network and viewed on the SEC Network.
