Pete Turnham, Alison Maillard and Scott Lazeroff each advanced into the finals on day two of the Tennessee Diving Invitational on Thursday.
"Overall a strong day for us, especially coming back from break," Auburn diving coach Jeff Shaffer said.
Turnham, who placed sixth on the 3-meter on Wednesday, scored a 328.05 on the 1-meter on Thursday to finished fifth. He had entered the finals in 10th after a prelims score of 305.85. Lazeroff finished 11th (289.90) during finals after a 310.10 put him in eighth after prelims.
"Pete did some outstanding dives," Shaffer said. "Unfortunately in the finals he did a reverse two-and-a-half for 33 points, which is well under his potential for that dive. But he had a really strong inward two-and-a-half and his best front two-and-a-half full twist on one meter to date, so that was very encouraging.
"We experimented with Scott doing more new dives, which should give him a higher scoring potential on one meter," Shaffer said. "They weren't as successful as we want them to be but the opportunity to dive them in this invitational should help us make a decision on which dives to use as we get closer to conference."
Maillard scored a sixth-place finish with a finals score of 312.50,which was almost identical to her 312.85 prelims score, a personal best.
"Alison put together two consistent lists and I was pleased with her consistency," Shaffer said.
Earlier in the day, Justin Checchin scored a 252.10 and Zach Richards a 211.25 in the men's competition and Erin Norton scored a 203.65 in the women's competition.
"One of the areas we need to focus on over the next several meets is putting ourselves in position to be a little more competitive and finishing our dives a little stronger," Shaffer said.
The competition concludes on Friday with the men's and women's platform competitions.
