Fayetteville, Ark. - Junior sprinter Jenae Ambrose won the women's 200m dash in a personal best time of 23.35 against a very competitive field at the Tyson Invitational Saturday. Ambrose edged out teammate Natalliah Whyte, who broke Auburn's freshman record in a time of 23.40 to claim silver in the event.
A native of St. Catherine, Jamaica, Whyte broke Nivea Smith's previous 200m freshman indoor record of 23.73 set in 2009.
Freshman Noah Igbinogene, competing in his first collegiate meet, finished eighth in the men's triple jump at the Tiger Paw Invite in Clemson, S.C. A member of the Auburn football team, Igbinogene jumped 15.27m/50-1.25 on his third leap to advance to the finals.
Chris Stone finished ninth in the men's pole vault, clearing 4.80m/15-9.00.
Auburn recorded 24 personal bests during the weekend, including 10 on Saturday. Six Auburn runners established new PRs in the 800m Saturday at Clemson, including three on the men's side and three on the women's side.
The Tigers' weekend was highlighted by sophomore Akeem Bloomfield's school-record setting 45.02 in the men's 400m. The Kingston, Jamaican's time broke the Jamaican National record, is the second fastest time in the nation this year, the sixth-fastest time in NCAA history and eighth best ever in the world all-time list.
Auburn's next meet will be the Southeastern Conference Championships, February 24-25, in College Station, Texas.
