AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn guard Bryce Brown was named one of 30 finalists for the Naismith Trophy on Wednesday. Named in honor of Dr. James Naismith, the creator of the game of basketball, the award is given annually to the top men's college basketball player.
Brown, one of just three SEC players on the list, currently leads the Tigers and is No. 6 in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game.
"It means a lot to me," Brown said. "It just goes to show that over this season, this past off-season, the work I've put in has finally paid off. I just really appreciate the coaches and my teammates for allowing me to display what I can do.
"But it definitely means a lot because the people on those lists are great players. They're on a lot of mock drafts. For me to be on that list, it just shows me that I can play with those guys."
Brown has been particularly good behind the arc this season as he leads the SEC in three-points shot made (81) and three-point field-goal percentage in league play (49.4). The Georgia native, who set an Auburn freshman record with 78 three-pointers made in 2015-16, ranks No. 5 on the school's all-time list with 215 career trifectas.
Brown remains a game-time decision for Wednesday's game against Kentucky. He sat out the Georgia game over the weekend with a shoulder strain.
