AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn right-hander Casey Mize has been named to Baseball America's Top Junior Prospects list announced Wednesday afternoon. Mize appears at No. 2 on the list of the nation's top 50 juniors.
Slated to make his first Opening Day start in an Auburn uniform Friday evening, Mize has picked up a number of accolades including being named Preseason First Team All-SEC, a preseason All-American by five different publications and a member of the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List.
The Springville, Ala., native is coming off a sophomore season in which he became the 25th All-American in program history after leading the team with an 8-2 record, 2.04 ERA and 109 strikeouts despite missing three starts.
His ERA registered third in the SEC and 25th in the NCAA, while his strikeout total was the highest by an Auburn pitcher since 1999. Additionally, Mize led the NCAA with a 12.11 strikeout-to-walk ratio and ranked 15th in the country by striking out 11.73 batters per nine innings.
Tanner Burns and Steven Williams were named top freshman prospects earlier this week. Burns topped the list at No. 1, while Williams ranked No. 15 on the list. Auburn was one of two schools with a pair of representatives in the top 15.
