AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 13 Auburn women's tennis team will host a doubleheader against Michigan State and Samford this Saturday, Feb. 17, at noon and 6 p.m. CT in the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Spartans are 7-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs are coming in with a 3-3 record.
The Tigers will be looking to regroup after clawing their way through the ITA National Team Indoor Championships last weekend, where they faced No. 2 Pepperdine, No. 14 Michigan and No. 11 Wake Forest.
No. 2 Pepperdine boasted five ranked singles players, three of which are in the top 35, and a top 50 doubles tandem. No. 14 Michigan brought two ranked singles players to the tournament, one being ranked as high as No. 29. No. 11 Wake Forest also took two ranked singles players to the event along with two ranked doubles tandems, both of which are ranked in the top 35.
Auburn was able to claim a tough victory against No. 14 Michigan, and also put up great fights against No. 2 Pepperdine and No. 11 Wake Forest in an action-packed weekend.
Seniors Alizee Michaud and Andie Dikosavljevic led the way for the Tigers over the weekend as they were perfect in singles, earning a combined six wins. Each of those matches were also clinched without needing a third set. Although the team got off to a slow start against Michigan, Michaud and Dikosavljevic's back-to-back singles wins sparked the team to an exciting 4-3 victory.
Auburn currently sits at 7-3. Of the first 10 matches this season, four of them have been against ranked opponents. The Tigers have also notched at least two points in each of their losses this season.
After Saturday, the Tigers will set their sights on the Blue Gray Championships, which are being held in Montgomery, Ala., on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24.
