AUBURN, Ala. - Continuing the trend of having players named top prospects in their class, Auburn third baseman Josh Anthony was tabbed a Baseball America Top Senior Prospect Thursday. Anthony appeared at No. 20 on the list of the nation's top 50 seniors.
In his first season on The Plains in 2017, Anthony was one of two Tigers to play in all 63 games throughout the season. The Columbus, Ga., native posted a .266 average and reached base at a .375 clip. Anthony hit 14 doubles with a pair of home runs and drove in 39 RBI, tied for second on the team.
A junior college transfer from Western Oklahoma, Anthony was named a NJCAA First Team All-American and helped his team to two NJCAA World Series appearances. He hit .425 with 20 home runs and 71 RBI as a freshman and bested his numbers by hitting .444 with 25 home runs and 84 RBI as a sophomore.
Anthony was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 16th round of the 2016 MLB Draft but elected to continue his collegiate career at Auburn.
Tanner Burns and Steven Williams were named top freshman prospects earlier this week. Burns topped the list at No. 1, while Williams ranked No. 15 on the list. Auburn was one of two schools with a pair of representatives in the top 15. Additionally, Casey Mize was named the No. 2 junior prospect by Baseball America yesterday.
