AUBURN, Ala. - Madeline Meredith has been named SEC Freshman of the Week for her stellar performance at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic last weekend.
Meredith has gotten off to a great start in her freshman spring campaign, posting an 11-1 singles record and a 9-3 doubles record. The Birmingham, Ala., native was perfect over the weekend, maintaining composure in each match, whether she dominated or came from behind to win.
Meredith is now on a six-game winning streak in singles and a four-game winning streak in doubles. The freshman sparked the Tigers to victory by claiming the first singles point of the match against Denver with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Arisha Ladhani and Alabama with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jacqueline Pelletier. Meredith also evened a tightly contested match at three all with her 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 tiebreaker-set win over Illinois' Emilee Duong.
Meredith teamed up with fellow freshman Jaeda Daniel as the only tandem for the Tigers to win every doubles set in all three matches, which again displayed her high level of play over the weekend. Meredith and Daniel took down Denver's Anna Riedmiller and Hada Chang 6-2, Illinios' Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz 6-4 and Alabama's Smith Hinton and Jacqueline Pelletier 6-2. Meredith has been a consistent, successful presence for the Tigers this season, something unusual for a freshman.
Meredith and the Tigers will be kicking off SEC play at Vanderbilt on Friday, March 2 at 3 p.m. CT.
