AUBURN, Ala. - No. 12 Auburn women's tennis dominated Cornell in sweeping fashion with a 7-0 victory on Friday at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y.
In doubles, freshmen Jaeda Daniel and Madeline Meredith got things started with a 6-3 win over Cornell's Madison Stephens and Cheyenne Lilienthal. Senior Andie Dikosavljevic and junior Alannah Griffin clinched the doubles point for the Tigers with a 6-4 win over Cornell's Ananya Dua and Michelle Wang. To conclude the doubles matches, senior Alizee Michaud and sophomore Taylor Russo won a tough battle over Cornell's Priyanka Shah and Mariko Iinuma by a tiebreaker score of 7-6 (4).
In singles, Auburn completed the sweep by winning all six matches. Those victories, however, did not come easy. Auburn sophomore Georgia Axon secured the first victory by taking down Cornell's Ana Elhom 6-0, 6-3. Madeline Meredith was the next Tiger to claim a victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Cornell's Cheyenne Lilienthal. Alizee Michaud clinched the match for the Tigers with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Cornell's Ananya Dua.
No. 77 Taylor Russo notched the next victory for the Tigers with a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win over Cornell's Mariko Iinuma. No. 53 Jaeda Daniel improved her spring record to 5-0 in a tough battle against Cornell's Priyanka Shah by a score of 5-7, 6-1, (10-6). Junior Caroline Turner concluded the match with another tight finish in a 3-6, 7-6, (10-5) win over Cornell's Michelle Wang.
Auburn will travel to Princeton, N.J. to take on Princeton this Sunday at 11:00 a.m. C.T. at the Lenz Tennis Center.
