Birmingham - Freshman Tori McKinley won the women's shot put with a personal-best mark of 15.13m/49-7.75 on Sunday at the Jaguar Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex Sunday. McKinley was one of four Tiger throwers to compete at the event.
A native of Hermitage, Pa., McKinley's winning throw came on her fifth of six throws, outdistancing the second place finisher by over three feet. McKinley's throw is also the four-best in Auburn school history.
Evan Blaire claimed silver in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.33m/63-7. A high school classmate of McKinley's at Hickory High School in Hermitage, Pa., Blaire's toss of 53-7 came in his fifth of six throws, jumping him from fifth place into third. Teammate Benedict Draghi finished fifth in the event. The freshman from Arlington, Va., posted a mark of 15.85m/52-0 on his second throw.
Sophomore Erin Perkins took eighth in the women's weight throw with a toss of 16.79m/55-1.
The Auburn track and field program will be back in action Feb. 9-10 at the Tiger Paw Invite in Clemson, S.C., before heading to College Station, Texas for the 2018 SEC Indoor Championships, Feb. 24-25.
