BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Auburn sophomore guard Jared Harper has been named to the Southeastern Conference men's basketball community service team, the league office announced Thursday.
The Mableton, Ga. native has been involved in a variety of projects and programs in the local area.
Harper has volunteered numerous hours to visit students at the Boys and Girls Club of Great Lee County and with the Jason Dufner Charitable Foundation to help end child hunger in the state of Alabama.
He has also volunteered for several other community service projects, including Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lee County and Homes for our Troops, where he and his teammates helped to build a home for a wounded veteran and resident of Auburn.
Harper has also volunteered to feed the homeless in his home area of Atlanta, volunteered to organize gifts and wrap presents with a local charity at Christmas and spent time with and mentored children with Camp Good Grief, a local grief camp for children who have recently lost immediate family members to cancer.
On the court, Harper has been the floor general for Auburn en route to one of its best seasons in program history. The sophomore has averaged 13.8 points and 5.7 assists per game, while scoring in double figures in 26 of 30 games, including 16 of 17 in SEC play.
