AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 16 Auburn women's tennis team will be hitting the road to open up SEC play this weekend.
The Tigers will have to hit the ground running as they take on No. 4 Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn. on Friday, March 2 at 3 p.m. CT in the Currey Tennis Center. Auburn will then turn around and face No. 15 Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. on Sunday, March 4 at 11 a.m. CT in the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex.
Auburn is coming off a solid performance in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic last weekend, going 2-1 overall. The Tigers defeated the University of Denver 4-1 and No. 37 Alabama 4-0. Auburn also pushed eventual tournament champions No. 5 Illinois to a final set in a 4-3 loss in the semifinal round.
The Tigers are 11-4 on the season. Auburn currently has two players with double digit singles wins this spring in senior Alizee Michaud (10-1) and freshman Madeline Meredith (11-1). The freshman tandem of Jaeda Daniel and Madeline Meredith is also undefeated (5-0) throughout the spring season.
No. 4 Vanderbilt is 7-2 on the season, with five ranked wins and their only losses coming from No. 6 Pepperdine and No. 14 Northwestern. Vanderbilt is also coming off a 4-3 win over No. 1 North Carolina. No. 15 Kentucky is 8-2 on the season, with three ranked wins and their only losses coming from No. 14 Northwestern and No. 11 Ohio State.
The SEC currently has the most ranked teams in the nation with seven [Vanderbilt (4); Ole Miss (7); Georgia (10); South Carolina (13); Kentucky (15); Auburn (16); Tennessee (17)] and is tied for the most top 10 teams with three.
The Tigers' next action will be at home in the Yarbrough Tennis Center against Mississippi State on Thursday, March 8 at 2 p.m. CT and No. 7 Ole Miss and Alabama A&M starting at noon CT on Saturday, March 10.
