BATON ROUGE, La. -- No. 10 Auburn softball dropped the series finale to No. 8 LSU by a final of 1-0 Sunday at Tiger Park.
Auburn starting pitcher Makayla Martin came up on the losing end of an outstanding pitcher's duel between herself and LSU starter Carlee Hoover (9-1). The pair combined for 13 strikeouts and eight hits.
Martin (9-3) tossed 6.0 innings in the circle with five strikeouts and five hits allowed. The junior from San Diego, Calif. did not allow a run until the bottom of the sixth when LSU's Sydney Springfield singled with two on to plate the game's only run.
Auburn dropped to 23-5 while LSU improved to 22-2 on the season.
Auburn lost by a combined three runs over the weekend sweep, the Tigers' first time being swept in SEC play since April 2014 vs. Missouri.
Junior second baseman Casey McCrackin led Auburn offensively with two hits, her fourth multi-hit game of the season. Courtney Shea added the Tigers' third hit in the top of the seventh.
LSU tallied five hits, two coming off the bat of Aliyah Andrews, who finished the weekend with nine hits.
Auburn will now make a pit stop in Hattiesburg, Miss. on their return trip from Louisiana for a doubleheader with Southern Miss beginning Monday at 2:00 p.m. CT.
