AUBURN, Ala. - After a perfect weekend through three matches that included one ranked victory, No. 80 Jaeda Daniel has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Midway through her freshman campaign, Daniel has posted a solid 9-5 singles record, splitting time at the one and two spots. The Port Charlotte, Fla. native was not only perfect over the weekend, but also firmly controlled all of her matches.
Daniel won all of her singles matches in two sets, and she allowed opponents to win no more than one game in each doubles match. Daniel also claimed her second ranked win of the season by defeating Ole Miss' No. 106 Sabina Machalova. While Daniel's singles win against Mississippi State gave Auburn the significant advantage of being up by two, her singles win over No. 11 Ole Miss drew the Tigers back even and sparked them to victory.
In doubles, Daniel is 14-3 on the season. The tandem of Daniel and fellow freshman Madeline Meredith are currently on a three-game winning streak. As the scores would indicate, Daniel's tandems won the first doubles set in each match, giving the Tigers the advantage they needed to clinch every doubles point over the weekend. Despite being a freshman, Daniel has stepped into a crucial role for Auburn and succeeded thus far.
Daniel and the Tigers' next action will be against Alabama on Friday, March 16 at 2 p.m. CT at home in the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
