CHARLESTON, S.C. - The No. 6 Auburn men's golf team tied its second-lowest round of the season as it shot a 17-under 271 in the final round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Tuesday. The impressive circuit on the par 72 course matches the team's second round score at the All-American Feb. 17.
The Tigers tallied 28 birdies on the day, led by seven from Ben Schlottman. Trace Crowe and Ryan Knop were next with six birdies, while Brandon Mancheno and Jovan Rebula finished the day with five and four, respectively.
"I'm proud of the team today as we played with a lot of heart and pride," head coach Nick Clinard said. "17-under is quite impressive and shows how much firepower and passion this team contains. They played together and for Auburn today, which is exciting to see."
Mancheno finished in a tie for 14th overall with a 5-under 67 in his final round. The freshman capped the tournament with a 3-under 213 overall. Crowe and Schlottman were two strokes back at 1-under 215.
Crowe's final circuit was a 5-under 67, while Schlottman produced a 3-under 69.
Knop had a final round score of a 4-under 68 to complete a 1-over 217 tournament card. Rebula secured a 3-under 69 in his final tour of the course to cap a 4-over 220.
Auburn started the day in eighth, but moved up the charts behind the second-lowest score of the field to finish in a tie for sixth with Wisconsin.
Ole Miss won the event at 23-under 841 (281-291-269--841), followed by Kent State (281-285-276--842), Kentucky (281-287-276--844), Iowa State (281-290-284--855), Missouri (278-299-279--856), Auburn (287-300-271--858), Wisconsin (289-292-277--858), NC State (288-298-274--860), South Carolina (288-301-278--867), College of Charleston (289-301-278--868), Louisville (290-306-283--879), Georgia State (285-308-287--880), Eastern Kentucky (296-306-278--880), Georgia Southern (299-302-291--892) and Wofford (306-312-290--908).
Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss earned medalist honors for the tournament with a 13-under 203.
The Tigers return to action April 9-10 when they travel to Gastonia, N.C. for the Gary Koch Invitational.
